Print Friendly, PDF & Email

We all want to maintain our youth to the best of our abilities. While aging is an unavoidable part of living, this does not mean that we are powerless to prevent aging or maintain our youth. Fortunately, science has learned quite a bit about the things we can do to maintain our health and vitality into old age. While there is likely no such as thing as a silver bullet that yields the fountain of youth, there are some simple things you can do as part of a holistic health strategy that might help.

Eat A Healthy Diet

A good diet is key to good health. The Kaufmann Diet might be a good place to start. You will protect yourself from the aging effects of yeast and mycotoxins while supporting your body with good nutrition. Be sure to include plenty of healthy fats, like those found in avocado, olive oil, walnuts and fish like salmon; these foods support your brain, heart, skin and other systems. Be sure to include plenty of plant foods like vegetables and lots of anti-oxidants like vitamin C, which protect against the oxidative effects that lead to aging. Avoid foods like sugar and trans fats while focusing on whole foods from the earth.

Avoid Bad Habits and Toxic Exposures

We all know we should avoid alcohol and tobacco; these are two bad habits that contribute to aging. Toxic exposures too, like a moldy home or a radon leak, can affect your health negatively too. Be mindful of things like flame-retardant furniture and the cleaning and cosmetic products you use. Opt for green and clean products whenever possible.

Move Regularly

One of the best ways to fend off aging is exercise regularly. This keeps your musculoskeletal system healthy, promotes strong bones and has benefits for your heart, brain and virtually all body systems. Exercising is simply one of the best ways to maintain a youthful appearance and mindset.

De-Stress Your Life

Mounting evidence suggests that stress and mental burdens facilitate physical changes in our bodies that can lead to poor health outcomes. We as a society are more stressed than ever before; it is more important today to mitigate the stress in your life than it ever has been. Take quiet time each day to pray or meditate; commit to getting enough restful sleep every night; make stress identification and elimination a priority in your stress protocol.

Be Sun Smart

Damage to your skin is one of the quickest ways to diminish a youthful appearance. We have written how to be sun-smart while still gleaning the benefits of sunlight. Avoid excessive sunlight exposure, and opt for healthier sunscreens if you are going to be exposed to UV light for too long.

Keep Your Brain Sharp

There are many ways to support your brain via supplements and healthy fats, but one of the best things you can do is to stimulate your brain regularly. Read voraciously; learn new skills; challenge yourself. These are simple, enjoyable ways to keep your brain functioning as you grow older. There is never a reason to be bored!
