Why You Should Use Avocado Oil

Avocado Oil

The avocado is known for its myriad of health benefits, and it should come as no surprise that avocado oil contains many of the same benefits.

Avocado oil is more popular in The United States now, but it is only in recent years that people have gotten familiar with why avocado oil should be a staple in every kitchen. Avocado oil has been a staple in Nicoya, Costa Rica for some time. Nicoya is among the blue zones, which have become well known because of the frequency with which their inhabitants live healthily into old age. The speculation is that the diet and lifestyle of people in these particular regions facilitates healthy aging and longevity.

Here are some reasons why this ingredient should be a staple in your kitchen right here at home.

Is Great for Cooking

This oil has a higher smoke point than many other oils, and as such, it is great when you are cooking with high temperatures, such as on a grill. A high smoke point means that it won’t burn and degrade––leaving toxic components in the food which are associated with causing cancer––as quickly as other oils. Avocado oil also has a neutral flavor that won’t affect the taste of the foods you are cooking.

Avocado Oil Is Great Raw

You can use this oil the same way you would use olive oil to dress salads. Its more neutral flavor may be preferable for some, while still maintaining many of the same health properties one would normally associate with olive oil.

Rich in Healthy Fats

Like the avocados from which it is derived, avocado oil is high in heathy monounsaturated fats and oleic acids that are known to promote heart health and the health of other bodily systems. Other liquid oils that are frequently used for cooking are not always high in healthy fats, and many are downright unhealthy and ill advised.

Rich in Nutrition

Avocado oil is antioxidants, which help protect us from free radial damage. It is rich in vitamin E and carotenoids such as lutein. Furthermore, avocado oil assists with the absorption of other important nutrients, including vitamins A, D, and K. This means it can help to round out a healthy meal in a meaningful way.

Associated with Numerous Health Benefits

Avocado oil contains compounds that are known to lower cholesterol and improve cardiovascular health. It’s also good for the skin, and for the eyes, and may also be beneficial for those with arthritis.
