May I suggest one burnout factor that no one is talking about? Doctors are some of the brightest individuals in the world. How do 22-year-old kids that smart allow themselves to be resocialized without their knowledge? What specific class taught them that they are not smart enough to figure out the cause of illness? Who among them would prefer to robotically prescribe rather than cure? And when it comes to their newly acquired prescription habits, how many of them never learned that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result?
You see, I think as they age, many doctors will realize that medical school, in effect, shackled not only their creativity but also their careers and that alone will become the primary reason they burn out.
