While turning a wrench a few weeks ago, I inadvertently cut my hand. After dousing it with H202, I realized that I didn’t have a Band-Aid, so I drove 4 miles to a Walgreen’s Pharmacy to get a new box. I had been in that store a few times, mostly for birthday cards. I can’t assess their pharmacy wares, but their birthday cards and Band-Aids are excellent! Outside of my $18 annual purchases, I had no idea of the booming business that Walgreen’s Pharmacies were. This article (1) points out that that 75% of Walgreen’s sales come from roughly 8,600 stores! The have that many? “Walgreens reported a 2.6% sales increase to $36,400,000,000 (billion)…” They make that much money? And this is just one pharmacy chain! In the infamous words of John Lennon, “Imagine!”
I am saddened by how many people must choose their prescription drugs over other expenses. I am, however, hopeful that one day, many of those who have to make these choices will realize the large contribution that their lifestyle choices, including diet, supplements, exercise program and happiness factors could make in their lives. If and when you’re ready for a change, always share your plans with a qualified healthcare provider. There are no shortages of them today.
