High Blood Pressure – To Medicate Or Not To Medicate

If you have hypertension or high blood pressure, you may be taking a drug that is suspected of actually causing cancer. The drug list includes Atacand, Teyeten, Avapro, Cozaar, Benicar, Micardis, Diovan, Avalide and Hyzaar. Each is a type of B/P medication called “Angiotensin II Receptor Blockers.”

Never wanting to have my angiotensin II receptor (whatever that is) blocked, I’ve never taken any of these medications. I much prefer to exercise on a regular basis and follow my Kaufmann 1 diet as preventive measures, But I do understand and respect that some people must take drugs to control their blood pressure.

I understand that tens of millions of Americans are on blood pressure medications. I just wanted to let you know that if you have been told that medication, that might increase your risk of cancer, is your only choice, it’s time for another visit with your doctor.

Here is what I’d say to him/her;
“Doctor, you’ve had me on this B/P medication for _____ years. Although some of your peers disagree, I’ve just learned that my risk of certain cancers increase while taking these drugs. If you will help me, I’m willing to begin an exercise program and change my diet in my effort to control my own blood pressure without the medication. “

Make wise choices and be well! Doug
