Earlier research has linked exposure to heavy indoors levels of Stachybotrys and other molds and their mycotoxins to many health problems including asthma, sinus problems, lung hemorrhage, depression, chronic fatigue, reduced concentration and attention, and increased cancer risks.
Ulcerative Colitis, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, And Resolution When Mold Exposure Ended And Patient Treated With Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide (vip). Shelly Gunn et al. Reversal of Refractory Ulcerative Colitis and Severe Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Symptoms Arising from Immune Disturbance in an HLA-DR/DQ Genetically Susceptible Individual with Multiple Biotoxin Exposures. American Journal of Case Reports 2016;17:320-5.
Indoor mold exposure may also cause severe digestive problems as well. A case report described a formerly health 25 year-old man with no obvious health problems and ran 3 miles per day. After moving into a water-damaged rental building containing high levels of Stachybotrys and other molds- the man developed severe chronic fatigue, ulcerative colitis, severe abdominal pain, and severe bloody diarrhea. He was unable to work or exercise. Antibiotics and anti-diarrheal medications gave little relief from his diarrhea.
The patient was removed from the water damaged home and given replacement of VIP=- Vaso intestinal peptide. He gradually improved over a period of 3 months, has no symptoms of chronic fatigue or diarrhea, and has returned to his normal work and exercise. He is currently taking no medications except for food supplements.
