Supplements Can Be Confusing; They Do Not Have To Be

What is the foundation of any effective health regimen? Likely, any health expert will tell that it is proper diet, followed quickly by exercise. Without proper diet and sensible exercise, it is unlikely that anyone will maintain vibrant health.Furthermore, anyone suffering from poor health is unlikely to regain it without changing these two simple lifestyle factors.

An important element to any health regimen, however, can and should be a targeted supplement regimen.

Supplements, however, can be a source of both confusion and intimidation for those that are new to taking control of their own health. This is for a few reasons:

– Their efficacy is often hyped or overstated, particularly for any new “breakthrough” nutrient that promises to be a silver bullet for any given health issue, which is never the case.

– Often people new to supplementation do not fully understand the utility, the dosing, or how to properly discern the quality of specific supplements. Often, newcomers will take a supplement, expecting it to work like a medicine, and then be disappointed when they do not experience the expected result.

– Many often do not realize that supplements are most effective when other aspects of health––such as diet and exercise––are optimal; when supplements are used synergistically with other modalities, their potency and efficacy is compounded.

For those who have begun the Kaufmann 1 Diet and perhaps initiated a sensible (in some cases, physician monitored) exercise program, here is a simple, science-based supplement protocol, and what these supplements will work to assist you with.

A Good Multivitamin

A multivitamin helps provide a good foundation of nutrients necessary for the body to optimally perform. Often, the complaint about multivitamins is that all they do is create expensive urine and that you can get all the nutrients you need from food alone.

It is true you can get all the nutrition you need from food alone… If you eat a perfect diet. How many of us do that? Compound that with the fact that much of the nutrient dense food people do consume contains less nutrition than in previous years due to soil depletion and a multivitamin begins to make even more sense.

A good multivitamin should provide therapeutic amounts of vitamins on a regular basis so that your body can thrive instead of simply survive.
