We know that fungus, specifically a kind of yeast called Candida albicans, can become a parasitic organism inside humans beings. This, obviously, is well documented––C. albicans is the yeast that causes vaginal yeast infections in women. Many people do not realize, however, that candida can infect other tissues in the body.

The majority of the time, your doctor will tell you that fungal infections are likely superficial infections and they typically only become serious in people who are severely immunocompromised. However, there is evidence to support the idea that yeast, fungi and their poisons can be more subversive than this, even in “healthy” people.

“if you are experiencing symptoms of unknown etiology, this may be a clue to implicate fungus.”

Frustratingly, a problem with yeast can be difficult to diagnose. Often, the symptoms caused by candida, yeasts or fungi can appear to be idiopathic, or cause unknown. However, if you are experiencing symptoms of unknown etiology, this may be a clue to implicate fungus. Other clues may be these: Have you recently taken a course of antibiotics?

Have you at any time taken multiple courses of antibiotics? Do you consume a lot of grains, corn, starch or sugar? Do you regularly consume alcohol? If you answer yes to any of these, there is at least the chance that pathogenic yeasts can be causing symptoms you may be experiencing.

To this end, it may be beneficial to go on an anti-fungal program, or a candida cleanse. An anti-fungal program will also act as a candida cleanse––candida is, after all, a kind of yeast, which is a variety of fungus. (Candida, however is not the only kind of fungus that can parasitize humans.) A broad spectrum, anti-fungal program may be a good indicator of whether your symptoms are caused by fungus; if after 3 to 6 weeks on the program you feel much better, you may have pinpointed the cause of why you have not felt right to begin with.

But what, exactly, would a candida cleanse or anti-fungal program look like?

It would likely eliminate fungi’s preferred food of choice: Sugar. Therefore, also gone would be foods rich in carbohydrates, such as grains, corn, potatoes, starchy foods, most legumes and most dairy. Alcohol would also be eliminated. Instead, lean meats, eggs and healthy oils would be encouraged, along with vegetables and the less-sweet varieties of fruits. Nuts and seeds would likely be encouraged. Butter and plain yogurt––yogurt with live active cultures––would be included.

In addition, natural anti-fungals, such as clove oil, oregano oil, olive leaf extract or grapefruit seed extract would be beneficial for their ability to eliminate yeasts inside the body.
