Why Is Exercise Important for Men as They Age?

As we men age, becoming sedentary is a risk that should be avoided. Jobs take up many hours, families need attention and homes require maintenance. However, exercise helps keep a number of men’s health issues at bay, and it does this in a number of ways.

Exercise helps oxygenate your body. Keeping your blood circulating and oxygen pouring in is good for a number of reasons, not least because it helps protect against fungal infections. It is also good for your heart. Heart disease is the number one killer of men and women in America. Exercise lowers triglycerides and keeps your heart in shape. It improves circulation and helps prevent diabetes.

Study after study confirms this: Exercise helps prevent the second leading cause of death in men in the Unites States – cancer. Exercise aids in keeping a healthy weight, another risk factor for multiple diseases. Exercise keeps bones and muscles strong and your mind alert; it has even been shown to mitigate the effects of depression and anxiety, two conditions becoming ever more common in our over-stressed society.

Volumes could be written on the effects of exercising. Ultimately, it just makes you feel better. It is a critical step towards health and vitality at any age, and it is never too late to begin.
