Kaufmann Diet Foods + Supplements for Lower Cholesterol

Cholesterol levels are an important metric for heart health; to that end, we are told it is necessary to keep those levels within a certain range. Interestingly, there is evidence that the anti-fungal diet might have some benefits for cholesterol levels, which is outlined in The Fungus Link series of books.

Cholesterol levels are very influenced by lifestyle factors, such as diet and exercise, and to that end, you certainly have the power to own your own health in this regard. If you are starting The Kaufmann anti-fungal diet with the hopes of improving your cholesterol levels, here are some Kaufmann Diet Foods and suggestions for supplements to help Lower Cholesterol: 

1. Fatty Fish 

Salmon, mackerel, trout, and other fatty fish that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which have been shown to lower triglycerides and increase HDL cholesterol.

2. Nuts

Almonds, walnuts, and other nuts are high in monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, which can help lower LDL cholesterol.

3. Avocado

Avocados are rich in monounsaturated fats, which can help raise HDL cholesterol and lower LDL cholesterol.

4. Olive Oil

Extra virgin olive oil is a healthy source of monounsaturated fats and antioxidants that can have positive effects on cholesterol levels.

5. Fruits and Berries

Green apples, citrus fruits, strawberries, and other berries contain soluble fiber and antioxidants that may help lower cholesterol.

6. Vegetables

 Broccoli, spinach, kale, and other leafy greens are rich in antioxidants and fiber, which can contribute to heart health.

7. Garlic

Garlic has been associated with lower cholesterol levels and may also have other cardiovascular benefits.

8. Turmeric

Turmeric, a spice commonly used in curry dishes, contains an active compound called curcumin. Curcumin has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and may contribute to heart health by improving cholesterol levels. Adding turmeric to your cooking or consuming it as a supplement may offer potential benefits.

Supplements for Cholesterol Control 

For added cholesterol support, several natural supplements have been studied for their potential to improve cholesterol levels. As always, it is important to consult with a physician before beginning any supplement regimen. But these supplements are generally safe and well-tolerated and may come with cholesterol-lowering benefits. 

Fish Oil (Omega-3 Fatty Acids)

Fish oil supplements, which contain omega-3 fatty acids, particularly EPA and DHA, may help lower triglycerides and increase HDL cholesterol. 

Garlic Supplements

Garlic has been studied for its potential cholesterol-lowering effects. Some research suggests that garlic supplements may modestly reduce total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels.

Red Yeast Rice

Despite its name, this supplement is safe for The Kaufmann Diet. Red yeast rice contains compounds that are similar to statins, which are medications used to lower cholesterol. Some studies suggest that red yeast rice supplements may help lower LDL cholesterol.
