Fish Oil Prevents Many Heart Problems
Most fish oil like cod liver oil contain large amounts of omega 3 fats. Many studies have shown that regular consumption of omega 3 fats from flax, fish oils and fatty fish (such as salmon, mackerel, anchovies, sardines and herring) are associated with many heart and cardiovascular benefits. Such omega 3 benefits reported in various studies include significantly lower rates of first and repeat heart attacks significantly lower levels of blood triglycerides, improving heart beating in congestive heart failure patients, and reducing rates of heart irregularities and other heart rhythm problems.
A good review of the heart benefits of omega 3 oils by Roth and Harris is found in the January 2010 Currents in Atherosclerosis Reports. For maximum health, try to eat at least 2-3 ounce serving of fatty fish weekly and/or consume at least one teaspoon daily of fish or flax oil.
