Living and raw foods

I thought raw was best!

Virtually everything that is written about vegetables and fruits says that cooking denatures some of the important compounds like enzymes and protein.  Yet for the very same reasons we wash out the germs in our clothing in hot water, we are told that heating milk, in a process called “pasteurization” also kills germs in the milk….and that is where the controversy begins.

Here we go again.  The headline says it all.

FDA Moves to Withdraw Unproven Blood Pressure Drug

Shire Laboratories’ low blood pressure medication ProAmantine had been on the market for 14 years despite the fact that Shire failed to submit evidence that it actually worked!  I kid you not!

Pneumocystis

Doug Kaufmann Is pneumocystis pneumonia caused by bacteria or fungus?  AIDS and cancer patients often die when infected with this germ.  I believe they die because the normal treatment is antibiotics and steroids, both fuel to fungal diseases. But one research group began using an anti-inflammatory drug called sulfasalazine on mice with PCP.  This drug is also commonly used to treat Crohn’s and arthritis patients.

What Price Wellness?

Doug Kaufmann

CNN’s health segment yesterday had me dumbfounded.  I really didn’t know that 62% of American bankruptcies are due to medical bills!  That’s almost 2 out of three families that go broke do so because the care they got was so expensive.  Of those going bankrupt, an astounding 75% had medical insurance!

In defense of the medical system, many are alive because of medical intervention, but I know that many of these cases are hospital billings for loved ones that died while under their care.  How must they feel with impending bankruptcy and the loss of a loved one? ?  This gets to the core of the issue and that is, what should we do about this broken system?  Apparently health insurance is not the answer! Of course, I have a thought, but I’d love to hear yours.

Fungus Mistaken For Cancer

Doug Kaufmann Arizona is called “Valley Fever Corridor” because its vast expanse is home to a soil and sand borne fungus called Coccidioides immitus.  About 10,000 Arizonians discover just how dangerous this fungus is.  According to a local physician, however, it is “vastly under-diagnosed.”  Dr. John Galgiani, who is the Director of Valley Fever Excellence at the University of Arizona feels that the actual number of Coccidioides fungal infections is probably closer to 30,000 cases, not 10,000.

What About Bob?

Doug Kaufmann

Have you ever seen the movie, “What About Bob?”  Within 2 hours, this movie did what few ever do.  In their attempt to show what stress does to a seemingly normal psychiatrist, instead the producers proved that the psychiatrist, more so than the patient, truly needed psychiatric help.

I bring this to your attention because it mirrors what I believe is occurring in medicine today.  This article, entitled, Children With ADHD at Increased Risk for Depression and Suicidal Thoughts as Adolescents, is very twisted to me.

As Long As We Remain Ignorant

Doug Kaufmann I remember yesteryears sinus surgeries very well.  Not first handed mind you, but had I never figured out my own health problems decades ago, I’m certain that some sinus surgeon would have sold me on sinus surgery by now.  After all, they do convince 300,000 people annually that they need this admitted “not curative” surgery.  Do the math.  You may not have needed it, but somebody did.
