Should I Eat Bananas on Phase One?

Bananas are commonly thought of a healthy fruit, and you will often find them recommended as a healthy snack or as an ingredient in a healthy smoothie, etc. No doubt there are some great inherent benefits to bananas: they are loaded with potassium, portable, affordable and tasty. However, particularly when you are starting the Phase One Diet, bananas might be one of many fruits you should avoid.

On the Phase One Diet, you are eliminating most forms of sugar. This is because the goal of the Phase one Diet is to irradicate pathogenic fungal infections in the body. Fungi’s preferred source of fuel is sugar, in all it’s forms. Therefore, foods high in sugar and/or carbohydrates (which immediately convert to sugar upon digestion) are eliminated from the diet. This can potentially assist in starving pathogenic fungi in the body.

Included in the list of foods to avoid on the Phase one Diet are the sweeter varieties of fruits, such as melons, oranges, and bananas. Although fruits are high in a number of excellent phytonutrients and fiber, the concern is the inherent sugar in many fruits, known as fructose. While having many healthy properties, it is possible that a diet high in the sweeter varieties of fruits could potentially feed a pathogenic fungal infection.

Now, there are some fruits still encouraged on the Phase one Diet. These include, lemons, limes, grapefruit, avocados, tomatoes and berries. Most others are excluded from the diet. Many people may ask which fruits are allowed on the Phase one Diet; the simplest way to tell whether or not a fruit is allowed is simply a taste test. If a fruit tastes sweet, chances are it is discouraged on the initial part of the diet.

Many people balk at the diet of eliminating fruits from their diet, but particularly if you are suffering from health problems you think may be linked to a pathogenic yeast or fungus problem, eliminating all kinds of sugar from the diet may be a good idea. Furthermore, many (if not most) of the nutrients inherent in fruits can be gleaned from other parts of the diet. Many people find that after eliminating all sugar and sugary fruits for a period of time, they do find some relief from their health problems.

As you begin to graduate to the more lenient Phase Two Diet, you are encouraged to include more fruit into your diet, in moderation. While on the Phase two Diet, a banana here and there might be permissible. However, should symptoms return, one should return to the more restrictive Phase one Diet. This can act as a test, itself; if you find that symptoms return upon including more sugar in your diet, you may have discovered that yeast and fungi have been at the root of your health problems all along.
